Audition Details

Please refer to the Compete Page for an explanation of Divisions, Levels, & Genres.

  1. Read Before Applying

    • Please review all audition details before starting your Audition Application.

  2. Mandatory Audition and Evaluation

    • All contestants are qualified through video auditions.

    • A board of judges will evaluate all auditions and determine the Division(s) and Level you qualify for, regardless of previous participation.

    • Judges' decisions are final.

  3. Audition Performance

    • Your audition is not just a submission – it's your first round of competition. Treat your audition like a live stage performance. We are evaluating your musicianship, professionalism, and presence:

      • Perform with full commitment and artistry.

      • Stand confidently (sitting only if part of your act).

      • Make eye contact with the camera—avoid closed eyes throughout.

      • Wear stage-appropriate attire.

      • Include movement and expression.

      • Do a sound check—ensure your whistle and track are well balanced.

  4. Video Submissions

    • You may audition for all Divisions you’d like - you can only qualify for and compete in the areas/genres you have auditioned for.

      • Submit 1 video per area you’d like to compete in:

        • Solo Performance - Popular

        • Solo Performance - Classical

        • Self-Accompaniment

        • Allied Arts

      • Minimum of 2 videos total are required for sufficient content to judge.

        • You may submit 2 songs of the same genre if you do not wish to audition for Masters Level.

    • Each video must follow these guidelines:

      • 2–5 minutes, recorded in the last year.

      • Must feature live whistling with accompaniment (A cappella not accepted).

      • No sound effects or auto-tune.

      • Backing tracks with minimal background vocals are acceptable (for audition only; No vocals are allowed on backtracks during the live competition).

      • Acceptable tracks include: karaoke tracks, Music Minus One, or custom backtracks. TIP: iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, and other platforms offer quality tracks labeled as “karaoke tracks” or “no vocals.”

      • Label each video with your name, division & genre, song name & composer.

        • Enter the composer/writer of the song - not the performer.
